The Singers

Since their first public concert in 2009, the Lucy Cavendish Singers have been capturing the hearts and minds of audiences with their vibrant performances and imaginative programmes. Performing entirely from memory, the Singers bring enormous commitment and spontaneity to their songs. The varied musical background of the individual singers supports a wide-ranging repertoire from jazz and traditional music to classical pieces.

The Singers were formed in 2008 by their Director, Katharina Megli, who particularly enjoys the challenge of combining distinctive voices to create an unusual and intense choral sound. She chooses music with the individual singers in mind to showcase particular talents in solos or small ensembles and to bring out the strengths of each member of the choir. Most full choir songs are sung unaccompanied. For solos and small groups the Singers may be joined by one or more of their excellent musicians on violin, double bass, lute, harp or piano and programmes sometimes also include solo instrumental numbers. From this diverse repertoire, each concert is woven into a seamless whole, creating a uniquely enjoyable experience for the audience.

The Singers were founded at Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge. Members include fellows and alumnae of this College as well as of other Cambridge colleges, employees of the University and singers drawn from the wider community.
